Scoopville – a Social Media Analogy

August 5th, 2009 by Catherine Novak

Interesting!  Lee LeFever of CommonCraft.com produced this video which compares ice cream to social media.  Anything that uses an ice-cream metaphor gets my attention, and I think he’s brought some fresh insights to the social media conversation.

I’m surprised it doesn’t mention the big social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) – but whether you produce your own media on your own channels, or hang out on the larger social networking sites, his analogy still holds.

What do you think?

    Catherine,
CommonCraft makes some great and insightful videos using metaphors people like us can relate to. Curiously, many seem to include ice cream. Lee must like the frozen dairy product as much as you and I.
Social media certainly has provided us with the tools to get make informed decisions based on feedback from those we trust or crowd sourced from the masses.
But alas, a twitter search for my favourite ice cream flavour produces nil results http://ow.ly/jePU Guess I’m not so average after all…

on the other hand, there are many people pigging out on Moose Tracks flavour and tweeting about it…
