This week, my blog and my website have been united at wordspring.ca. For me, that’s pretty exciting! I like blogging on a domain that’s all my own, and that includes pages as well as posts.

Some web strategists say not to do that, but to keep your blog and your website separate so that your blog acts as an external referral source to your website. I figure there are plenty of methods out there to generate incoming links to your site, without the bother of having your blog on a different domain.  Take all this social media stuff I’ve been harping on about, for instance.  Everywhere I have a profile, I can put a link to my site.  I can link to my site almost everywhere that I submit a comment, as well. There is no reason you can’t set up links to your site almost anywhere you have something to say online.

Now I’m in the process of redirecting some of those external links, creating new copy and generally polishing up the new home. As this is a WordPress blog, it’s really easy for me to change the content on the site. If I were a web designer, I’d say that it’s really easy for me to change the layout, too – but I delegate that job out to ideazone.ca. They know what they are doing.

So thanks, Paul and Katharine, for a great job!  Welcome, everyone, to the new space.  Housewarming party TBA.

Hi Catherine. I like the new look of the blog. I subscribed to the feed but it’s not showing up with any posts in it, unread or otherwise. I think there may be something amiss with the feed…

I hope it’s something as simple as the few days it’s been since I last blogged! I’m feeling like a “bad mom” to my blog again, but be assured I’ve got something drafted, and I just want to figure out why my images keep breaking. Then I hope that we’re off to the races, and I’ll be showing up in your feed.

Meant to get back to this sooner. Today when I opened my newsreader, all your posts are showing up fine…so whatever it was – it’s all fixed now.

  4. Hi Catherine,

Your site looks great! I agree that a blog does not have to be on a separate site. I have just finished setting up a WordPress blog on my site. I’ve been doing it myself, more just to gain experience doing it and I find the challenge exciting. I have also been working on an updated website as well, although it is going a little slower.
The link idea is a very simple concept! At some point we will be doing online promotions with coupons, gifts and such to people who sign up. Now if I could just figure out how to email a latte out, we wouldn’t need a store front!
